Underhung Crane in Medak

J.K. Birds

S.K. Engineering Underhung Crane is a compact single‑girder suspension crane designed to travel beneath the runway beam, providing smooth and precise material handling with capacities typically up to 10 tons. Its ceiling‑mounted design maximizes floor space, making it the perfect solution for low‑headroom production areas, assembly lines, and warehouses.

The S.K. Engineering Underhung Crane, also known as an under‑running or underslung overhead crane, is engineered to be supported from the building roof or runway structure and to move along the bottom flange of I‑beams or custom tracks. This configuration offers excellent side and end approaches, allowing the hook to reach closer to walls and obstructions, which increases usable working area compared with conventional top‑running cranes.

Typical underhung cranes are supplied in single‑girder design with electric chain or wire‑rope hoists, covering capacities from about 0.25 ton up to 10 tons with spans roughly between 3 m and 22.5 m, depending on application and structure. Lifting heights and speeds can be customized, and travel motions are usually electric with controlled acceleration for accurate and jerk‑free positioning of loads.

Because the crane is suspended, there are no floor‑mounted columns, which simplifies plant layout, keeps aisles clear for forklifts, and reduces interference with existing machinery and processes. Underhung systems are especially beneficial in new or existing buildings where headroom is restricted but the roof structure is strong enough to carry the crane loads.

Standard safety features for underhung cranes include overload protection, upper and lower hoist limit switches, long‑travel and cross‑travel limiters, fail‑safe braking, and emergency stop arrangements on the control station. Optional radio remote control, pendant control, and variable‑frequency drives can be offered to enhance operator comfort, reduce load swing, and improve precision during handling of delicate or high‑value components.
